Library is a dance duet inspired by the meditative composition “Noise in the Library” by Rutman´s Steel Cello Ensemble. The first version of the choreography was seen at the opening evening of the Jarmila Jeřábková choreographic competition at the Duncan Centre theatre, where Lenka Bartůňková had been awarded first prize the previous year (2005) for the piece Libera me. This duet was later more widely performed, and in 2008 received the main award in the Sazka Prize choreographic competition for Discoveries in Dance in the Czech Republic. Since 2009 the choreography has been a part of the project Nova síť (New Network).
All knowledge, thoughts and feelings are kept between the pages of innumerable books. The need for self-expression and the longing to leave something behind in this world beyond the end of one’ s existence has always existed. The graphic formulation is an ancient image of mankind which is always changing. A book is a window to the human soul, and to a fantasy world. It is one of the ways in which we can address one another and exchange. It is a journey on which thoughts and the self become immortal.
